I was born in Oakland, California in 1976. My education includes a BA in Philosophy from UCLA in 2000, and an MFA in Painting and Drawing from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2004. I came to Chicago for graduate school and have lived here since then.

I have been a recipient of several awards. In 2004 I used the Odyssey Artist Grant to travel in China to shoot photos and attend the Shanghai Biennale in 2004. In 2007 I developed work at a three-week artist’s residency, awarded by the Ora Lerman Trust, in rural Pennsylvania. In 2007 I received the Distinguished Faculty award from the City Colleges of Chicago for excellence in teaching studio art and art history at Kennedy King College. Annually, I have accepted an invitation to donate work to the One Inspired Evening auction at the Chicago Cultural Center to raise funds against homelessness and to provide job training.

Artist Statement

My work is about arrested moments in the ceaseless flow and flux of impression, sensation, thought, and information. It is our acts of attention and/or imagination that frame these moments. The medium I use is photomontage. My process is to digitally layer and graft images from several sources according to a concept I have in mind. The image is complete when the source images all participate as forms in a final composition.
